Grand Canyon and Nearby Parks
Arizona has some fantastic national and state parks. Take a flight to Phoenix, Arizona and rent a car. Start drive to Sedona, Grand Canyon National Park, Page, Antelope Canyon, and Monumental National Park. The total drive time from Sedona to Monumental National Park is about 7 hours. Budget a week for the whole trip as you will spend time sight-seeing in each park.
Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon has South and North Rim. You cannot go from South Rim to North Rim directly unless you hike through the Canyon. Driving has to go around the Grand Canyon and takes about one day so they are better to be done on separate trips. Everybody knows what is there to see in the Great Canyon National Park, but I will mention that rafting through the Grand Canyon on Colorado River is voted by many travel magazines as something worth doing. Other than just sight-seeing, another fun thing to do is riding a Donkey down to the Canyon.
Sedona
Sedona is between Phoenix and Great Canyon National Park so it should be visited before Great Canyon. Sedona’s main attraction is its array of red sandstone formations. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The red rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. People claim there is unique energy from the majestic red rock with tangible regenerative and inspirational effects. Go visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross, sitting high atop the red rocks of Sedona, if you have such a need. The Pink Jeep ride is highly recommended.
Page and Antelope Canyon
Things to do here are a visit to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and a cruise on Lake Powell. We liked the Antelope Canyon visit the best. Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land east of Lechee, Arizona. It includes six separate, scenic slot canyon sections on the Navajo Reservation, referred to as Upper Antelope Canyon , Rattle Snake Canyon, Owl Canyon, Mountain Sheep Canyon, Canyon X and Lower Antelope Canyon. It is the primary attraction of Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, along with a hiking trail to Rainbow Bridge National Monument.
Monumental National Park
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park is said to be one of the most photographed places on earth. The valley is host to towering sandstone rock formations that have been sculpted over time and soar 400 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor.
